American Light Oak Windows & Doors in Scotland
Glasgow & West of ScotlandThis traditional stone-built cottage in Darvel, East Ayrshire, was upgraded with American light oak double-glazed windows and doors.
The property had featured original timber windows which were beginning to rot due to old age and poor maintenance. Draughts were beginning to become an issue. Thankfully Lorimer double glazed windows are energy A rated as standard and are available in a variety of styles to suit all properties, whether traditional or modern.
Mrs Hopkinson was immediately drawn to the American light oak colour of window sample at her design consultation.
“I thought it would be a great fit with my fireplace but also the colour of the outside stonework” – Mrs Hopskinson.
We agree that the colour does complement the traditional stonework, adding an extra dose of kerb appeal to the beautiful facade of the building.
A unique feature of this period property is the presence of a storm door, which helps to protect the main door from all types of weather damage, which on the West coast, can be quite harsh at times. Storm doors act as a second barrier from the cold, keeping the heat inside and reducing draughts, which is pertinent during the winter months.
This engineered timber storm door has been designed with a personalised fan light above, adding character and providing an additional light source to the porch and hallway. The inner door is also American light oak and features a large stained glass window, designed by the homeowner.
“It was important for me to add my own personal touch. I’m so happy with the finished product and the colours reflect through the hallway beautifully in the sunshine.” – Mrs Hopkinson.
The expert installation team has seamlessly crafted the new internal oak finishings with existing timber panelling in the living room and the window has become a standout feature of the room. The American light oak window frames complement the homeowner’s existing furniture and fireplace wonderfully.
“I’m so happy with the finished result, it all looks so fresh and new. And importantly, draught-free!” – Mrs Hopkinson.
