How did CR Smith help the Kennedys improve energy efficiency and modernise their home?
At CR Smith, we believe that beautiful homes start with beautiful windows, and the ideal way to increase a home’s kerb appeal is by starting with the fabric of the building first. Mr and Mrs Kennedy were looking to replace old aluminium windows, as renovation work they had done to their property’s exterior made the windows look old and dated. Upgrading to new uPVC windows has instantly helped boost the exterior while also increasing its functionality and energy efficiency.
‘ … I feel that the windows actually helped to show that it has been modernised.”
Working closely with their local product specialist, Mr and Mrs Kennedy were able to design a new window style to meet all their requirements. They wanted to bring a modern aesthetic to the exterior of their home, while keeping a cohesive look across the property.
How has the upgrade enhanced their home’s energy efficiency?
Internally, the upgrade to uPVC windows has not only helped modernise their home’s exterior, but also increased the heat within their home. As uPVC windows contain a number of reinforced chambers within the frame, this design helps capture cool air, creating an additional barrier between the inside and outside of their property, resulting in a more energy-efficient home.
Reflecting on the upgrade to Lorimer, Mr Kennedy said that the new windows have had a ‘big improvement on the standard of heat in the house’, adding that they are now able to turn the heating down, helping reduce their energy bills as a result.
How did the flexible finance options support the Kennedys’ lifestyle?
Alongside improving the comfort and efficiency of their home, the flexible finance options from CR Smith helped make the upgrade even more manageable for the Kennedys, allowing them to redecorate their home in one go. Mr Kennedy said,
‘We deferred the payment for a year, and that allowed us to spend quite a substantial amount on the other parts of the house and get the windows at the same time and have everything done.’
This highlights how the flexibility helped them complete their renovation without compromise and enjoy the benefits of their new windows straight away.
What new window design did they choose?
To help bring a modern look to their home, they chose side-hinged casement windows in a three-part design for the living room, kitchen and bedrooms. This has helped to increase light within the home, making each room feel more open and inviting. The functionality of a side-hinged casement window is also more practical for Mr and Mrs Kennedy, as the previous top-hinged hoppers were getting difficult to open with their high handles and ageing frames.
What safety feature do the egress hinges provide in the upstairs windows?
To comply with Scottish Building Regulations, we installed egress hinges on the top-floor windows. This feature allows all the windows in the upstairs rooms to open fully for emergency escape or rescue situations.
In addition to the safety features, the egress hinges also make cleaning the windows much safer and easier to do from the inside. They allow the sashes to slide along the track, giving better access to the outer pane. By integrating egress hinges, the Kennedys’ new windows are the perfect combination of safety, compliance and everyday usability.
What impact did the transformation have on their home?
The Kennedys’ new windows have helped them to complete their home renovation internally and externally. The new uPVC casement windows have brought a fresh look to the property, while the upgraded design of side-hinged windows has brought a consistent, contemporary feel to their home.
This project showcases how the right window design and material can easily transform your home. Which is why we like to work closely with our customers to ensure that their new windows not only work efficiently but also achieve their styling requirements.
