CR Smith has always enjoyed strong links with local community projects across Scotland. We have a number of sponsorship programmes with local football teams and schools as well as two major initiatives called ‘Hand Picked’ and ‘The Shoot Charitable Trust’.
When it comes to recruitment, young people are often overlooked. On one hand, this can be because they haven’t learned how to sell themselves to an employer. On the other hand, it can be because the potential employer doesn’t immediately see their qualities – and with no experience to their name, their applications are too readily consigned to the ‘no’ pile. It’s a Catch-22 that we all recognise.
Hand-Picked from CR Smith looks to solve that dilemma. It works with employers, encouraging them to act and help overlooked, yet highly capable young people kick-start their careers. It does this by offering paid 12-week placements within their company, giving the young people relevant work experience, support and guidance for their future careers.
We work with employers to offer these young people paid 12-week placements, giving them relevant work experience, support and guidance for their future careers.
Part-funded Scottish Government, Hand Picked is now in its 10th year and works with a range of employers across Scotland including Forth Electrical Services, Fife Gingerbread, NHS Scotland, Blackadders and PFI Signplus, to name just a few.

Now in its 20th year, The Shoot is a charitable clay pigeon shoot held annually at the beginning of August. With over 400 guests on the day, it is the biggest event of its kind in Scotland.
The Shoot has a winning combination of a challenging clay pigeon competition taking place in the morning followed by an afternoon of fundraising with a grand raffle, silent and main auction as well as an a la carte lunch and entertainment.
Organised by a team at CR Smith, we work closely with a network of supporters who donate prizes, services and sponsorship.
Our small army of volunteers and our guests make up The Shoot family and they come together in a spirit of generosity every year to have fun and support good causes.
Since The Shoot began, we have raised over £3.4m and in 2012 The Shoot Charitable Trust was created, a registered Scottish charity which distributes the money raised at the event to worthwhile causes. In recent years these have included Maggies Centres, JDRF, Seamab and CLIC Sargent.
