How did CR Smith help Mr and Mrs Crossan modernise their bungalow in Dunfermline while improving comfort and efficiency?

At CR Smith, we take pride in helping homeowners reimagine their spaces. Whether that’s enhancing comfort, boosting energy efficiency, or simply creating a home they love to look at. For Mr and Mrs Crossan in Dunfermline, this meant transforming the windows in their living room to achieve both style and substance, all while keeping a connection to the conservatory we had previously built for them.

Why did the Crossans want to upgrade their Dunfermline home?

Having already enjoyed the benefits of their CR Smith conservatory, the Crossans were keen to improve their home’s overall energy efficiency and add its kerb appeal. The living room was the perfect starting point for this transformation. Previously, the room featured three tilt and turn windows, but the couple were ready for a new look that would bring in more natural light and be more in tune with their lifestyle.

‘…we liked the idea of having a slightly wider open window, bigger expansive glass and narrower frame…’

What new window design did they choose?

Working with their local CR Smith product expert, the Crossans chose to replace the three tilt and turn windows with a large fixed pane, coupled with two top-hopper casement windows. This change not only streamlined the room’s appearance but also created an elegant focal point with clear, uninterrupted views. Internally, the windows are now white with a solid oak timber sill, adding a timeless touch of warmth and quality.

Externally, the rosewood finish has been retained to perfectly match the CR Smith conservatory, creating a seamless connection between the two spaces. The result is a design that looks as though it was always meant to be there.

Why are CR Smith timber sills so special?

One of the standout features of the Crossans’ new windows is the inclusion of luxury hardwood oak sills. Unlike standard finishes, every sill, horn and apron is individually hand-scribed by our craftsmen to achieve a flawless fit and seamless look. This meticulous attention to detail not only adds an extra level of refinement but also makes each installation unique.

The rich, oak finish brings warmth and character to the living room, creating a striking contrast against the white frames while enhancing the overall sense of quality. It’s these details that elevate Lorimer windows beyond the ordinary, giving homeowners something truly special.

…we were most happy with the oak sills when they went in, we thought they looked classy when they were finished…’

How do Lorimer slimline frames make a difference?

One of the most striking aspects of the transformation is the difference the Lorimer slimline frames have made. Replacing the old, chunky frames, the new design allows much more natural light to flood into the living room, making the space brighter, lighter and more welcoming.

What impact did the transformation have on their home?

The Crossans’ new windows now combine beauty, practicality, and performance. With their sleek design, durable finish, and enhanced energy efficiency, the windows have completely revitalised the living room while also boosting the home’s exterior appeal. This project showcases how Lorimer windows can not only refresh a space but also create a lasting transformation, inside and out.
