New sliding sash windows for property retains period features

Fife

The house had original single glazed timber sash and case windows.  Mr & Mrs Wallace wanted better insulation and less maintenance.  They had been renting the house but when they bought it 6 months ago they decided that the windows downstairs were a priority to replace.

They had no other quotes as he knew CR Smith would do a good job. Mr Wallace said they ‘couldn’t fault workmanship’. The joiners were very kind with their young son – took him to see the steam train on the back of their van because he likes steam trains! They reported the work men to be very tidy, good time-keeping and cleaned up after.

The main difference that they hadn’t really expected was the noise reduction.  Also the house is much warmer now with the double glazing, and their new windows are more attractive.

The house has period features such as wooden panelling at the sides of the windows which used to be covered by heavy curtains to help with insulation – they have now been able to remove the curtains and are enjoying being able to see the wood panelling to enhance the look of the room.

The old windows had secondary glazing and so they could not open the windows properly for ventilation.  They were also worried that if they opened the old windows they would break as they were so old!  Now these issues are no longer a problem!
