Over time, the original windows and doors had become less efficient, making it harder for the home to retain heat comfortably. 

At the same time, certain window and door layouts no longer offered the practicality Mr Ross was looking for, particularly in areas where ventilation, usability and ease of maintenance were important. 

Wanting to preserve the character of the property externally while creating a fresher, more modern feel internally, Mr Ross worked closely with his local CR Smith product expert to carefully redesign the spaces throughout the home. 

How did the new finishes modernise the interior?

To maintain the appearance of the property, Mr Ross chose a rosewood external finish, complementing the existing style of his home and surrounding properties. 

Internally, however, the transformation is far more noticeable. 

The switch to brilliant white frames has helped modernise each room, making the spaces feel lighter, fresher and more open. Combined with the slim frames of Lorimer windows, more natural light could flow throughout the home. 

How was the living room redesigned to improve functionality?

One of the most significant transformations took place in the living room. 

Originally, patio doors opened directly out to the garden. Working alongside his local CR Smith product expert, Mr Ross chose to replace these with a large Lorimer casement window featuring three top-hinged hoppers. 

This redesigned configuration has completely changed how the room functions.

The large glazed area continues to maximise natural light while creating a cleaner, more uninterrupted view out to the garden. Meanwhile, the addition of top-hinged casement hoppers improved ventilation within the space, allowing fresh air to circulate without the need to fully open the patio doors. 

The result is a more streamlined appearance alongside a brighter and more comfortable living environment. 

How did the new back door improve light within the kitchen?

The back door was upgraded to a fully glazed Lorimer uPVC door, helping transform the feel of the kitchen. 

Its large glazed panel allows significantly more natural light into the room, while the brilliant white internal finish further enhances the brighter, more modern appearance of the space. 

How was the front door redesigned to improve access?

As part of the upgrade, the front entrance was also reconfigured to better suit everyday use. 

Originally, the entrance featured a narrow side screen next to the door. During the redesign process, Mr Ross chose to remove the side screen and replace it with a wider framed Lorimer uPVC door instead. 

This new configuration provides easier access into the home while creating a cleaner, more balanced appearance. The wider opening also improves practicality day-to-day, particularly when moving larger items in and out of the property. 

Combined with the updated rosewood finish externally and brilliant white finish internally, the redesigned entrance helps tie together the refreshed appearance of the home.

Upstairs, the original tilt and turn bedroom windows were redesigned as Lorimer reversible windows to improve everyday practicality.
