Why did Mr and Mrs Sinclair decide to upgrade their windows?

Having recently moved into their East Fife property, Mr and Mrs Sinclair were eager to transform the house into a comfortable space where they could enjoy their retirement.

The home already featured a distinctive window design that played an important role in the character of the property and the views it offered. While the couple wanted to improve energy efficiency and comfort, it was equally important that any upgrades respected the unique design of the existing windows.

Working closely with a CR Smith product expert allowed them to explore how the design could be retained while incorporating modern performance and practical improvements.

How was the original window design preserved?

After reviewing the available options, Mr and Mrs Sinclair decided that maintaining the original design at the front end of the property was important to them. However, some thoughtful adjustments were introduced to better suit their lifestyle.

A tilt-and-turn window was added to the bay window to provide additional ventilation and improved functionality while respecting the existing window design.

This approach allowed the Sinclairs to retain the living room’s character while introducing features that improve everyday usability.

How did bespoke window detailing create a more cohesive interior?

Making a house a home is what CR Smith is here to do. Whether you find the perfect location and have a vision for the space or you want to give your beloved home a new chapter, we’re here to help bring any dream to reality. In this case study, we have captured a unique window design in East Fife, which has helped create the perfect space for the Sinclairs in their new home.

Why did the Sinclairs choose to upgrade their windows after moving home?

Having recently moved into the property, Mr and Mrs Sinclair were eager to transform the space into a place to sit back and relax in. To enjoy their early retirement with striking views and the companionship of some much-loved furry friends. As their new home already featured a unique window design, Mr and Mrs Sinclair were eager to enhance their home’s energy efficiency while adding their personal touch to the space.

How did bespoke window detailing enhance the space?

The new design makes the most of the unique interior feature. By cladding the structural posts in the same oak as the new window sills and surrounds, we’ve created a cohesive look across the whole space. Complementing the existing timber flooring and ceiling, and enhancing the visual aspect of the space.

How did the new window designs improve ventilation and everyday living?

To complement their current lifestyle and requirements, Mr and Mrs Sinclair opted for a tilt-and-turn window to the left of the bay, as it not only complies with Scottish Building Regulations but also accommodates their cats. With two indoor Bengal cats, there was a worry about escape if the windows were left open to ventilate the room. However, thanks to the design of the tilt and turn window, Mr and Mrs Sinclair can leave the windows tilted inwards without the concern of their beautiful house cats escaping.

What impact did the transformation have on the home?

Despite keeping the original window design, Lorimer windows have helped open up the space further, thanks to their slim frames and sleek finish. The white internal finish, complemented by the oak sills and surrounds, has helped bring a fresh new look to the space. The additional cladding of the structural posts has completed the space, making a smooth transition between old and new. The new interior has transformed the space, making it brighter, lighter and warmer, all thanks to the expert craftsmanship of Lorimer windows.
