Period property is restored with sliding sash windows

Fife

From dream to reality

Our video series ‘From dream to reality’ showcases our customers home and discusses the differences that new windows & doors have made to their homes.

This is Jackie and Mark’s lovely period property in Dunfermline, Fife. It’s full of character and fantastic original features, like the old fireplaces and wainscot paneling in their living room window.

But the casement and tilt and turn windows that were installed by the previous owners in the 1990s, affected the whole feel of the house. Jackie and Mark wanted new windows, to take it from tired and awkward, to something that was full of light and warmth, and brought back the charm and character of the house.

We installed new slim profile, sliding sash windows throughout their home. The double glazed windows combine period style with a little bit of modern ingenuity, and it’s these details that are making a big difference in every room.

With the Lorimer range, not only do you get the aesthetic benefit of features like the deep bottom rail and the period ironmongery, traditionally found in Victorian sash windows. But the fact that they are uPVC windows means that it’s much easier to maintain.

The high performing Lorimer window style is ‘A’ rated for energy efficiency and features a double wool pile weather strip and interlocking sashes to provide excellent draught proofing.

Jackie and Mark also chose to add optional features, including travel restrictors and decorative sash horns, for even more authenticity.

The vertical sliding sash windows can be opened both from the top and the bottom when you want to let in fresh air, and the ability to tilt inwards makes them much easier and safer to clean.

One of the features I love most about this home is the original panelling which can still be found throughout the house.

Our expert joiners removed the old timber from around the window frames and fitted new timber, which we painted in a brilliant white, which blends seamlessly with the panels, keeping the traditional style.
