How did CR Smith help the MacGregor family transform their Paisley home?
At CR Smith, we believe that beautiful homes start with beautiful windows. When the MacGregors decided to upgrade, they wanted to retain the traditional charm of their red sandstone property while modernising its appearance and improving energy performance.
Our local product expert in Paisley worked closely with them to design a bespoke solution from our Lorimer range that met their aesthetic preference, functional needs and budget.
Why did the MacGregors decide to replace their windows?
The original windows were outdated and inefficient, allowing heat to escape and detracting from the overall look of the home. The MacGregors wanted to give their property a fresh, modern edge while reducing energy loss and maintaining the period character that makes their home unique.
How did CR Smith design windows that suited the home’s style?
As every Lorimer window is made to measure and fully customisable, the MaGregors were able to mix and match different window styles to achieve their vision.
At the front of the home, they opted for Lorimer sliding sash windows, preserving the property’s traditional aesthetic while benefiting from modern engineering and thermal performance.
At the rear, they chose a combination of top-over-top casement windows and reversible windows. The casement design mirrors the appearance of the sliding sash style at the front, creating visual continuity, while the reversible windows upstairs provide easy cleaning and flexible ventilation.
What finish did they choose for the perfect balance of contrast and cohesion?
Given their home’s red sandstone exterior, the MacGregors selected a white uPVC finish to create a crips contrast against the darker tones of the stone. Internally, the brilliant white frames complement the original wainscot panelling, enhancing light and maintaining a bright, cohesive looks throughout the home.
This combination of finishes bring a clean, timeless appeal both inside and out, while maximising natural light within the living spaces.
What special features enhance the traditional charm?
To further elevate the period styling of the sliding sash windows, the MacGregors selected several decorative details including; authentic ironmongery, a deep bottom rail, and sash horns. These finishing touches add a subtle touch of luxury while maintaining the home’s heritage character.
What transformation did the new Lorimer windows deliver?
The transformation is both aesthetic and functional. The MacGregors’ home now feels warmer, brighter, and more in tune with their lifestyle. It’s modern functionality that complements its traditional design.
The careful balance between old and new has given their Paisley home renewed life, showcasing how Lorimer windows can enhance both character and comfort.
