Why did Mr and Mrs Brooks decide it was time to replace their windows?

Having moved into their home 5 years ago, Mr and Mrs Brooks had been considering new windows ever since. The existing rosewood uPVC windows had blown double-glazed units and allowed cold air to enter the property. Making the home uncomfortable, particularly during the winter months.

“... It has always been cold, it’s been draughty, and a lot of the windows were actually blown… especially with heating bills going up, it was just so cold…”

Improving comfort and reducing heat loss became increasingly more important to Mr and Mrs Brooks, prompting them to explore a long-term solution.

How did CR Smith help them find the right solution?

Working closely with their local product expert, Mr and Mrs Brooks were guided through a detailed consultation that explored both performance and design. The in-depth product knowledge and clear explanation of quality, service and aftercare gave them confidence in choosing CR Smith.

“… James came along and did a really professional presentation. It was really in detail, and I like detail… He demonstrated why the CR Smith product stood out in the marketplace. I just felt like it was the best overall package.”

What window design did they choose and why?

The Brooks chose white uPVC windows internally and externally, selecting a mix of tilt and turn, casement and fixed-pane windows to suit each room.

In the living room, large fixed-pane windows replaced the previous astragal-style design. Removing the decorative bars has helped flood the space with natural light while opening up uninterrupted views of the surrounding Fife countryside.

“We can actually see outside now, which is incredible. Especially as it’s a nice area that we live in.”

This clean, minimalist design has transformed the living space, making it feel brighter, more open, and connected to its surroundings.

How did the oak internal finish enhance the final result?

To complete the upgrade, Mr and Mrs Brooks opted for a full royal oak internal finish. Having done a lot of DIY himself, Mr Brooks was particularly impressed by the careful attention to detail around the sill and apron, highlighting the quality of craftsmanship provided by CR Smith.

“The quality of the craftsmanship in terms of the wood really impressed me. I do a lot of DIY myself, so I’m very particular.”

The new oak sills and surrounds have kept a traditional feel internally, while the hand-scribed aprons and bevelled sill horns have added a premium touch, integral to the home.

What was the installation experience like?

At CR Smith, we project manage everything, from the initial appointment to the final installation. For Mr and Mrs Brooks, this was an important factor in their decision-making process, as it removed any additional hassle. The installation itself was smooth and executed as promised. The team arrived exactly as scheduled and immediately took steps to protect the home, laying dust sheets throughout the hallways, access routes and external areas.

“They said they would arrive at eight o’clock and they were here, bang on eight. That’s a brilliant start in my book.”

The fitting process was smooth and seamless. Carried out with precision and care, all the windows were replaced within four days. Mr Brook commented on observing the joiners at work and was impressed with their accuracy and final fit.

“There’s no gaps anywhere, and it just looks like it all should be.”

What difference have the new windows made to their home?

The benefits were noticeable immediately. Draughts were eliminated, warmth was retained more effectively, and the improved glazing and slim frames have enhanced the comfort and views throughout the home. Mr Brooks commented on the process from start to finish, making a strong emphasis on how the overall quality and finish exceeded expectations.

“The quality of the windows has definitely surpassed what we expected. The finish has been fantastic.”

Lorimer windows from CR Smith are designed to enhance every aspect of a home, from improved energy efficiency and reduced heat loss to increased natural light and clearer views. With slim, refined frames and a wide variety of finishes, they not only help create warmer, more comfortable living spaces but also elevate a property’s overall appearance. As this Cupar transformation shows, choosing Lorimer windows can make a lasting difference to how a home looks, feels and performs.
