Bringing Spring into your home: how colours and light transform your space

25/03/25

Spring has a way of catching you off guard, doesn’t it? One day it’s all grey skies, and the next, you’re drawing back the curtains to find your room bathed in sunlight. It’s not just the room that feels better—you do, too. That’s the charm of spring light, and we have a way to ensure it gives your entire home a lift.

Aimee Mitchell is responsible for the interior design of our Show Complex in Dunfermline, and in her latest blog, she explains how light and colour can bring Spring into your home.

The spring palette: nature’s mood boosters

Spring colours are like nature’s little pick-me-ups. Those first pink blossoms and fresh green leaves are not only easy on the eye, but they also make you feel good.

Pink adds a touch of warmth and cheer; yellow brings a burst of energy; green keeps things calm and tied to nature, and blue feels peaceful and open.

No need to overthink it—just pick what feels right for your space.

Letting the light pour in

Your windows are key here. Old, bulky frames may be blocking some of that lovely light. The uniquely designed slim-frame windows in the CR Smith Lorimer range are a game-changer. They allow in loads more sunshine, making your rooms feel brighter and fresher, as if spring has moved indoors.

Mixing colours and light

With all that light streaming in, the colour of your window frames and surrounds can really set the mood.

CR Smith offers a selection of frame options but we would always suggest white to further enhance the fresh light of Spring.

The frames can be complemented with our beautiful range of timber sills and surrounds.

Complete the look with curtains for a combo that sings:

  • Brilliant white frames will look fantastic with soft pink curtains for a fresh and cheerful outlook.
  • Natural ash looks great with light green. It’s like the garden’s popped inside.
  • Royal oak with blue is a classic combo with a spring twist.
  • American cherry with yellow creates a warm and sunny look all day long.

Making it work for you

Every home’s got its own personality, so here’s a few tips to help you get it spot on:

  • Colours change with the light. Test fabric samples in the morning and later on—spring light shifts fast.
  • Match the room’s feel. Yellow’s great for a lively living space but might not suit a bedroom.
  • Got a north-facing room? Lighter frames and curtains can brighten things up beautifully.
  • South-facing? Cooler blues or greens can balance out that strong sun.

Why Spring light stands out

Spring light has got something special—it’s softer than summer’s glare but way cheerier than winter’s gloom. With windows from CR Smith, you get more of it, which can lift your mood, give you a little boost, and even help you sleep better. It’s like a daily dose of spring’s good vibes.

Your home is your happy place, so why not let spring work its magic? A little tweak with light and colour can make every day feel that much brighter.

Bring Spring into your home with CR Smith.
