Why did Mr Langton decide it was time to replace his windows?
Mr Langton was looking to upgrade his windows as the original single-glazed windows dated back to when the home was first built. Although he had retrofitted sealed units to help improve performance, the windows required ongoing maintenance and regular painting. Over the years, the ongoing upkeep has become an increasingly impractical task.
“The original windows were the ones that went in when the house was built. I did fit sealed units in for double glazing, and I had painted them a few times myself. I’m too old to go up ladders now.”
Mr Langton was looking for a long-term solution that would reduce maintenance, improve comfort and efficiency, while retaining the character of his Victorian home.
How did CR Smith help address concerns about fitting modern windows into a period property?
One of Mr Langton’s initial concerns was whether modern windows could be successfully integrated into a traditional Victorian facade. Retaining the heritage look was important. To ensure the original style was preserved, we knew that the perfect choice would be Lorimer sliding sash windows. Designed to replicate a traditional timber sash and case window, with sash horns and authentic ironmongery, Lorimer sliding sash windows perfectly complement period properties while offering all the benefits of modern engineering.
“It fits beautifully. The attention to detail is excellent… they’ve got all the nice touches, the fancy mouldings where they should be.”
How has the upgrade improved comfort and energy efficiency?
The new Lorimer sliding sash windows have significantly improved the home’s thermal efficiency, helping to retain heat and reduce cold draughts. These improvements have enhanced day-to-day comfort for Mr Langton, creating a warmer living environment without compromising the home’s original character. Mr Langton passed comment on how the benefits were noticeable instantly:
“There was immediately a noticeable difference in wind noise, and the traffic noise has gone.”
What was the installation experience for Mr Langton like?
From initial contact at our exhibition stand in B&Q Garthdee, Aberdeen, through to the installation, reliability and workmanship stood out. The fitting team arrived exactly as scheduled and carried out the work with care and professionalism. What sets CR Smith apart from other local double glazing companies in Aberdeen was the overall quality and finish. Mr Langton had considered other options, some cheaper than CR Smith, but the product from other contractors didn’t fit Mr Langton’s preferences.
“You might get them cheaper from somewhere else, but I’d swap money for quality anytime.”
For someone who appreciated good workmanship, Mr Langton was highly impressed with the installation and finished product. When asked if he would recommend CR Smith, Mr Langton said:
“I know good work when I see it… this is just excellent. I would recommend CR Smith to anyone. It could not be better.”
The upgrade to Mr Langton’s Aberdeen home demonstrates how Lorimer sliding sash windows can elevate traditional properties by combining authentic period styling with modern performance.
Designed to improve energy efficiency and enhance overall comfort year-round, Lorimer sliding sash windows allow homeowners to preserve the character of their property while enjoying the benefits of 21st century window technology.
