Why did Mr and Mrs Rennie decide it was time to replace their windows and doors?

Mr and Mrs Rennie have lived in their extended bungalow in Doune for many years. The original windows in the family home were over 20 years old and had served their purpose. Draughts were becoming increasingly more noticeable, and it was difficult to keep warm, particularly during the colder months.

Replacing the older timber windows and doors became the natural step to improve comfort, energy efficiency and the overall enjoyment of their home.

How has the upgrade improved warmth and energy efficiency?

The Rennies chose Lorimer uPVC windows and doors to enhance the thermal performance of their home significantly. Designed to retain heat and reduce draughts, the installation provides exceptional insulation throughout the property.

The result is a warmer, cosier interior that remains comfortable even during winter, helping the family enjoy their home all year round without compromise on style or functionality.

How did the new window design enhance views and natural light?

One of Mrs Rennie’s favourite changes can be found in the kitchen. The original casement window with a side opener was replaced with a fixed Lorimer window, creating a picture-perfect frame for uninterrupted views of the garden. This change in window style was made possible as the kitchen featured two other casement windows with openers to provide adequate ventilation.

Thanks to the upgrade to the slim frames of the Lorimer window, more natural light floods the space while maintaining excellent thermal performance. This transformation proves that practicality and aesthetics can go hand in hand.

How do the rosewood finish and cherry sill elevate the interior?

For the Rennies, it was important to maintain depth and character for their home. They opted for a rosewood uPVC finish for the external and internal of the new windows and doors, closely matching the previous timber windows. This rich tone enhances the warmth of the interior while complementing the property’s exterior surroundings.

In addition to the rosewood finish of the window frames, the couple chose our American cherry hardwood option for the internal sills. This beautiful, warming colour provides a contrast to the frames and allows the windows to become a feature focus in each room. Paying meticulous attention to detail, CR Smith joiners hand-scribe the sill and apron, taking care to ensure a beautifully detailed finish. Together, they add character and an inviting look throughout the home.

How have the new patio doors transformed family living?

The new Lorimer uPVC patio doors have transformed the performance and appearance of the living room.

The four-part patio door style was retained, and the previous doors, which were draughty and visually dated, have been replaced with new rosewood Lorimer patio doors. They now provide smooth operation, excellent insulation and a stunning connection to the garden. Creating the perfect space for indoor-outdoor living during the summer months.

This upgrade has allowed the Rennies to continue to enjoy the view of their garden, while enhancing the overall aesthetic of the home, all without compromise on heat and comfort within their living room.

Why does the new front door make such an impact?

Upgrading from a standard composite door with a side screen to a centred engineered timber composite door with side screens to the left and right has created a striking first impression. The new door offers both added security and style, rejuvenating that ‘welcome home’ feeling. Finished in rosewood to match the rest of the property, it ties the entire renovation together beautifully.

As the focal point of the home’s exterior, the new front door delivers an inviting entrance that truly reflects the warmth and comfort inside.

What impact has the transformation had on the Rennies’ home?

Thanks to the expert craftsmanship of CR Smith and meticulous attention to detail, the Rennies’ home has been transformed from dull and draughty into a space that feels warm, bright and welcoming.

This renovation demonstrates how thoughtfully designed Lorimer windows and doors can elevate any home, enhancing comfort, energy efficiency and character.
