Lorimer Edwardian Conservatory, St Andrews, Fife
St Andrews is located on Fife’s east coast and is best known for things, which have had a significant influence on the growth of the town; the university and golf. Additionally, various kings and queens have played a role in making St Andrews a nationally important town which has influenced the grand buildings that make up the majority of housing in the area.
Founded prior to 1144, St Andrews is a conservation area with a beautiful array of period Georgian and Victorian houses. Much of the work was designed as a conscious imitation of the Edinburgh New Town with both traditional terraced streets as well as detached mansion houses remaining prominent to this day.
Later development in the 20th century has seen the fashion for large detached houses continue but in more contemporary styles, such as our customer’s home, Mr and Mrs Addison.
They decided to add a new conservatory to give them some extra space but also so they could enjoy views over their back garden and beyond at any time of year.
Looking forward to enhancing their house, Mr and Mrs Addison were on the lookout for a reputable company to construct their conservatory. After a number of meetings, the couple were pleased by how pleasant their interactions were with CR Smith. And with a good rapport already established, the construction phase got underway.
Special care was taken to blend the new living space perfectly with the existing house, and even the Addisons find it difficult to tell that it was added so recently. Using an Edwardian conservatory design, to complement the existing style and size of the back of Mr and Mrs Addison’s home, we matched the detail of the brick build-up, window sightlines and the angle of the roof.
The conservatory is perfect, whatever the weather, with SmartGlass roof glazing, timber flooring and integrated Climate Control heating and cooling system. Soon after it started, the couple’s conservatory was complete; and what a stunning addition it makes. “We’re so pleased with the new space. The team have managed to create everything we asked for – we couldn’t hope for more than that.”
