Raised in Lochmaben, Dumfriesshire and laid to rest in Dunfermline Abbey, Robert I of Scotland (1306 – 1329), also known as Robert the Bruce, was one of the most famous warriors of his generation. He led Scotland, along with his close ally William Wallace, during the First War of Scottish Independence against England, ultimately defeating a far larger English army at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314.
