Sliding sash windows with decorative stained glass for 1930s home

Glasgow & West of Scotland

Mr & Mrs McKinnon had previously used CR Smith to build their conservatory, so the decision to use the firm again was a simple one. However, this time the couple, who live in an impressive 1930s built house in Glasgow, needed their windows replaced.

The original timber sash and case windows were rotten, draughty and opening some was almost impossible. Some of the windows had a very distinctive stained glass pattern. Overall, the windows were an important feature of the house and the McKinnons did not want to lose any of their home’s character.

Working with the couple every step of the way, CR Smith advised them on the best and most cost effective approach. We took them through the process of replicating the stained glass window and our joiners were able to deal with all of the ‘wonky’ walls, typical of a 1930s house to perfection.

They are delighted with the finished installation and the guarantee that goes with it. “It was really important to us to recreate the original look of the windows and even if the stained glass was not the most inspiring design, it was ours!” said Mr McKinnon.

The benefits of the new windows are vast. The couple told us that they have really seen a difference. The house is now much warmer and they can’t hear people walking past in the street anymore. Thanks to CR Smith, the McKinnons are now the envy of all their neighbours.
