In October 2010, Scottish Building Regulations were changed to specify that any windows being replaced in a domestic property need to achieve a U-value of 1.6W/m²K, improved from a U-value of 1.8. For new build homes, the U-value remains at 1.8 because of the thermal performance achieved in other parts of the building.
As CR Smith only fits products which fully comply with current building regulations, we have changed the specification of the whole Lorimer range in order to achieve these values.
All double glazed units fitted in our windows are now made from one pane of soft coat low emissivity glass and one pane of clear float glass. These panes are separated by a 16mm warm edge spacer bar to create a cavity, which is then filled with Argon gas.
CR Smith windows have been independently tested by BSI and CR Smith was the first company in the UK to be approved for their Kitemark scheme for Window Energy Rating (WER). This accreditation ensures that windows are manufactured to a quality assured process with a fully supported audit trail from simulation of the WER, through to installation. It is therefore accepted by Building Control Bodies.
Over and above this, it is possible to upgrade our Lorimer window to an ‘A-Rated’ specification which further increases its energy performance, achieving a U-value of 1.4W/m²K. This upgrade is also included in our accreditation for the BSI Kitemark scheme for Window Energy Rating.
In addition, CR Smith is also a member of the Energy Saving Trust.
