Timber Windows

The Timber Alternative

Where wooden windows are the most appropriate solution, we recommend high quality traditional timber vertical Sliding Sash or Casement windows available in both European Redwood and Hardwood.

Our timber windows are factory finished with two coats of  water-based white paint, any RAL colour, or can be stained with a transluscent finish. All our timber windows come with a beautiful range of ironmongery in Chrome, Satin or Gold, replicating traditional fittings whilst performing to very modern standards.

Applied or solid timber astragals can be specified to replicate the appearance of your existing windows. They are available in a range of thicknesses, which we can use to create a design to suit your home.

Single or Double Glazed

All timber windows can be either single or double glazed, in accordance with building regulations, depending on the designation of your housing area, e.g. Conservation or Listed properties. Alternativley where restrictions prevent you from replacing your windows, we can also provide discreet, high performance, internal secondary glazing in a range of window styles. As well as increasing the thermal efficiency of your home, it also improves noise reduction.

Manufacturing Process

The timber we use is triple laminated European Redwood, in line with BS EN 942 Class J30 or better in order to provide additional stability and prevent warping. Each piece of laminated profile is dipped and treated to prevent deterioration, and machine finished to ensure the highest standards. The frames are then dowelled and the sash comb jointed before being glued.

Timber Sourcing

All timber is sourced in line with The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) guidelines from managed supplies, ensuring that the provision of new timbers for your home results in an equal or greater re-forestation. The FSC helps to ensure that the timber we use, and the forests that the timber is supplied from, are well managed and, above all, sustainable. To ensure that we conform with these requirements, our timber is independently audited, which gives us peace of mind that we are a responsible company and that our responsibilities are monitored by an independent third party.

We can, if specifically requested, use timbers which have been independently certified.

Energy Performance

All CR Smith Timber windows comply with current Scottish Building Regulations and achieve a minimum U-value of 1.6W/m2K. Additionally, this specification can be enhanced to produce an A-rated timber window, if required.
