Fascia and soffit boards are traditionally made from timber and are fitted to the rafters underneath the tiles on your roof.
Not only do they require regular painting, they can easily rot if not properly maintained, along with the roof trusses they are attached to. Replacing them with low maintenance uPVC, however, means they will never rot, warp or crack and will save you a lot of work, giving a clean, tidy and reliable finish. Plus they are available in a range of colours to suit your home.
OurĀ products have been designed to withstand the extreme elements of the Scottish weather.
Roof voids should be ventilated in order to stop warm air condensing on cold surfaces. Condensation encourages rot and mould growth.
Compliance with these ventilation standards is required on all buildings, except those that were constructed without ventilation provision or predate the Building Regulations. However, CR Smith recommends that adequate ventilation is provided on all installations regardless of age so we fit a ventilated Soffit board as standard.
To ensure your roof is kept clear of birds and other pests, CR Smith fits a bird comb and eaves guard as standard. The first is fitted underneath the roof tiles and prevents birds getting into the eaves. The second fits underneath the sarking, or felt, of the bottom couple of tiles on your roof and stops water collecting and seeping into the joist ends.
Until 2000, Asbestos was widely used as a building material in the construction of houses. One of its most common forms was that of soffit and tiffen boards, both of which are removed and replaced as part of a roofline installation.
To ensure we look after you and your family, as well as our employees and members of the public, we arrange for a UKAS-accredited sub-contractor to take samples from all properties built prior to 2000 and test for the presence of asbestos.
After we have the results, and agreement for any further work that may be required, we will then arrange for the installation of your new fascia, soffits and cladding. If Asbestos is present, under The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006, it would need to be removed by our UKAS-accredited sub-contractor. CR Smith is the only company that offers this comprehensive approach to managing and removing asbestos.
