If you’re looking for something a little bit different, CR Smith solid timber conservatories are the ideal choice. Not all timber conservatories are made using solid timber, however ours are and they are perfect for a period home or a property in a conservation area.
Our bespoke conservatories in timber are available with an aluminium colour-matched roof or matching timber roof option.
Each conservatory is tailored to fit in harmoniously with your house and garden. Constructed from Accoya hardwood it can be painted white, finished in a natural stain or in any National Trust Heritage colour with microporous paint. As standard, a timber conservatory has equal sightline windows, creating perfect symmetry inside and out. This means that all windows have an opening top hopper as standard with a fixed, or opening sash, underneath so both look the same and therefore more aesthetically pleasing.
Full structural calculations are made at manufacture. All roofs are pre-assembled in the factory to ensure a perfect fit. Rafters are all bird-mouthed for a strong traditional joint.
Benefits
A paint system that protects the wood in three ways:
- It protects the wood from harmful ultra-violet rays which can cause greying and coursing of the wood.
- It protects the wood from water ingress and being microporous allows excess moisture to escape.
- It is flexible and it can therefore expand and contract naturally with the timber.
All finishes are mainly applied in the factory and only finished on site, which has a number of benefits:
- Superior aesthetic finish
- Joinery coated in a controlled environment (no rain, snow or hail and a controlled temperature for spraying and drying).
- Correct film thickness for maximum durability.
- Final finishing coat is applied on site after construction.

The Ventilation
Ventilation is vital in a conservatory, even in Scotland. Every Conservatory is different, designed specifically for you. However, as a starting point we’d suggest top opening windows all the way round and a set of double doors to allow a free flow of air on the hottest days.
The Roof
Polycarbonate helps keep the heat in and the cold out, and comes in a wide range of colours. An Opal or Bronze tint stops the neighbours peeking in from upstairs and could mean you don’t need blinds.
The Windows
All our double glazed windows are fitted with two panes of toughened glass as standard for strength and safety. And to increase energy efficiency one of the panes has a special low emissivity coating and the cavity is filled with Argon gas.
The Floor
We offer a huge selection of tiled and timber floors. You can either choose a finish to match the rest of your home, or something practical if your conservatory doors will be used as your back door. Both of these options are also hard-wearing and easy to clean.
The Heating
We can connect new radiators to your existing central heating system or fit electric heaters for heat on demand. And as both walls and floor are well insulated, you'll be comfortable inside whatever the weather outside.
Internal Finish
Beautifully finished Oak-veneered sills and sold skirting boards create a feature on the internal walls. Or choose another option to match the timbers in your home. The sills and skirting boards can be hand finished in wax or varnish, and we can paint the walls too.
The Power
Sockets, wall lights, maybe a colonial style fan? You tell us what you want and we’ll get it fitted while we’re building the conservatory. All the wires are hidden and we organise all the work for you.
