As part of Britain's commitment to improving the energy performance of domestic properties, Scottish Building Regulations were amended in October 2010 so that any conservatories over 8m² built after this date would need to achieve a U-value of 2.0W/m²K, revised from 3.3W/m²K.
CR Smith will only fit conservatories that fully comply with current Building Regulations, we have updated our specification in order to achieve this.
Every conservatory double glazed unit is now made from one pane of hard coat low emissivity toughened glass and one pane of clear toughened glass, with a 16mm aluminium spacer bar between the panes creating a cavity which is filled with Argon gas. In fact, this part of the conservatory exceeds Building Regulations giving a U-value of 1.8.
The windows that make up a CR Smith conservatory have been independently tested by BSI and CR Smith was the first company in the UK to be approved for their Kitemark scheme for Window Energy Rating (WER). This means that our windows are manufactured using a qualit assured process with a supporting audit trail from simulation of the WER through to installation. It is therefore accepted by Building Control bodies.
In addition, CR Smith has increased the insulation in the walls and floor to improve the U-values of these areas from 0.27 and 0.22 to 0.22 and 0.18 respectively.
CR Smith is also a member of the Energy Saving Trust.
