Sleeping out under the stars for charity

24/10/17

It’s blustery outside and the nights are drawing in very quickly, which makes you want to stay in and be snuggled up cosy at home.

But for some people, they don’t have this option as they very sadly don’t have a home.

We believe everyone should have a roof over their head and that’s why we’re backing Edinburgh’s Social Bite Village by donating windows and doors for the 12 homes currently being built in the city’s Granton area.

When they’re complete by the end of the year, they’ll provide a safe, warm and comforting place to live for 24 of the city’s homeless people.

The Village is the idea of social entrepreneur Josh Littlejohn, co-founder of the Social Bite sandwich shops, who is on a mission to end homelessness by providing people with a home, rehabilitation, job opportunities and the support they need to get back on their feet.

And in order to go one step further in tackling homelessness, some of the CR Smith employees are taking part in Social Bite’s ‘Sleep in the Park’.

It’s set to be the world’s largest sleepout and along with 9,000 other brave souls on 9th December, they’ll sleep out under the stars on a chilly December night to get a better understanding of how a homeless person feels sleeping rough.

The team – Cath Herdman (Accounts), Lynn Richmond (IT), Mariola Szczesna (Marketing), Joanna MacLaine (CR Smith Fix) and Marion Gilles (IT) – have set themselves a £3,000 fundraising target.

They are hoping to beat this amount and over the coming weeks, they’ll be organising bake sales, raffles, a ladies movie night and a concert.
