Example of the Social Bite Village homes in St Andrews Square, Edinburgh

A window of hope for Edinburgh’s homeless

18/08/17

Everyone is entitled to a roof over their head. But sadly, far too many people still find themselves without a place to call home.

As a company that is passionate about people, it was a natural decision for us to support the new Social Bite Village in Edinburgh, which will enable homeless people to have somewhere warm and safe to live for up to a year as they transition back into society.

This ingenious idea came from Josh Littlejohn MBE, who founded the successful Social Bite sandwich shops. Social Bite has attracted interest from Hollywood A-listers such as George Clooney and Leonardo Di Caprio.

The new village, in Edinburgh’s Granton area, is expected to welcome its new residents by Christmas and it could be a blueprint for how social enterprise, charity, councils and corporate companies can work together to create a solution that makes a difference.

CR Smith is delighted to be supplying all the windows and doors for the new homes.

If you can’t wait until December to see the finished product, the first home will be able to view in St Andrew Square, Edinburgh until the end of August.
